Zayn Malik Says He’s Been Revisiting One Direction’s Music & Wants to Collaborate With Miley Cyrus

Zayn Malik is reflecting on his past while setting some goals for his future. In a Monday (March 25) Stationhead stream, the 31-year-old singer revealed that he’s been enjoying listening to the decade-plus-old music he and his One Direction bandmates made back in the day, as well as shared that he hopes to team up with Miley Cyrus in the studio someday.

During the broadcast — which ironically took place exactly nine years after Malik shocked fans by announcing his departure from the boy band in 2015 — the “Pillowtalk” singer spoke fondly about his time with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. “I’ve been listening to a bit of One Direction music recently, reminiscing,” he said. “Good times.”

“We made some good music as a band,” Malik added. “We were pretty good.”

One Direction formed in 2010 after all five members auditioned separately on The X Factor. Before Malik left to pursue a solo career, the group released four albums together, each of which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Since going solo, the musician has collaborated with artists such as Taylor Swift, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Sia. Next on the list? Miley Cyrus, or so Malik hopes.

“I’d like to do a collaboration with her,” he said during the stream. “I like her recent music a lot. She’s got a sick voice and I think we could do something really cool together especially in line with what my new record sounds like. Miley, if you heard this, and you’re interested, I’m here.”

Malik is fresh off the release of his new single “What I Am,” which dropped March 15 ahead of his upcoming album Room Under the Stairs. The full set will arrive May 17.
