‘Wicked: For Good’: spellbinding first trailer teases Dorothy’s arrival
The first trailer for Wicked: For Good has finally been released – watch it in full below.
Ahead of its release in cinemas this November, the first official look at Wicked: For Good has hit the internet. The trailer sees Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) as Elphaba face the consequences of their decisions in last year’s blockbuster.
Glinda warns Elphaba that she’s being hunted, as the latter is dead set on finding the Wizard. The rest of the clip also teases the iconic yellow brick road, a wedding and the arrival of Dorothy, alongside the Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion – Dorothy’s face is never revealed in the trailer.

The first part of the Wicked saga hit cinemas at the end of last year and quickly became one of the most-talked about films of 2024. The story is set to continue with Wicked: For Good. “With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters,” explained director Jon M Chu.
Chu has since spoken to Vanity Fair about Dorothy’s arrival in the film, reassuring fans that they “tread lightly” so the focus of the movie remains on Elphaba and Glinda: “We tread lightly, but try to make more sense of how it impacts our girls and our characters than maybe the show does. We’re delicate.”
The trailer for Wicked: For Good first premiered at CinemaCon back in April, and was praised by those in attendance.
Wicked received a four-star review from NME, with Nick Levine writing: “By the end, you won’t quite be levitating off your seat but you’ll definitely be enchanted enough to stream the soundtrack on the way home. Funny, colourful and full of empathy for outsiders, this film really is the Shiz.”
Chu claimed last year that sequel For Good is “more relevant” to where we are “in society right now,”: “Part Two, I will say because I’ve cut Part Two together, is a doozy. “[You’re] getting the meat. I did not know the context of where we’d be in society right now. It becomes eight times more relevant than before when you’re talking about truth and consequences of making the right or wrong choices. It’s intense.”
Erivo previously revealed that she co-wrote an original song for For Good. “I collaborated on one of the new songs, and it’s so special to me,” she said. “When we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears. I hope audiences are ready — it’s a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is.”
