What are the rules of David Tennant’s new quiz show ‘Genius Game’?
David Tennant’s new reality game show Genius Game launches tonight on ITV, but what are the rules of the game? Read on to find out.
The eight-episode series begins at 9pm on Wednesday (April 30), with further episodes to follow over the next two weeks. Viewers can also stream the show on ITVX.
Genius Game is based on the acclaimed South Korean series The Genius, which ran for four seasons from 2013 to 2015 and was celebrated for its complex games that pit contestants’ intelligence and social strategy.
As outlined in a press release, the show will see “strategically minded players, chosen not just for their high intellectual prowess but also their social IQ, face the ultimate battle of survival.”
Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment at ITV, has said: “This exciting reality format is designed to keep not just the players but the audience on the edge of their seats with each episode containing compelling gameplay and thrilling twists. David Tennant is the perfect ringmaster to preside over this battle of brainpower, teamwork and deception. We’re delighted to be bringing Genius Game to the ITV audience.”
Tennant serves as ‘The Creator’ on the show, while contestants are a diverse group, including a crime writer, a forensic scientist, a DJ, a comedian and a GP.
What are the rules of David Tennant’s new quiz show Genius Game?
The 11 contestants on Genius Game have been chosen for their strategic thinking, social intelligence and diverse backgrounds.
They will have to work together on a series of games designed to test their intellectual and teamwork skills, following guidance from Tennant. Each episode will revolve around one key “Main Match”, in which all contestants will participate in a group task. Nevertheless, one winner will earn a “Token of Life”, granting them immunity from elimination on that episode.
The player who comes last in the “Main Match” will be forced to select another contestant to face in the head-to-head “Death Match” at the finale of each episode. The loser is eliminated from the competition.
Throughout the series, players accumulate “garnets”, a currency that can influence game play and strategy in future matches. The last remaining contestant wins the title of ‘The Genius’ and claims the prize of up to £50,000.
