Watch Kevin Parker debut a new Tame Impala song during Barcelona DJ set

Kevin Parker played a surprise DJ set in Barcelona this weekend and debuted a new Tame Impala song – check it out below.

The Australian musician and producer dropped by Primavera Sound for an unannounced performance on Friday (June 6) and then played a DJ set at Nitsa Club the following night. It was there that he previewed a possible taste of the first new Tame Impala album since 2020’s ‘The Slow Rush’.

“Er, you guys wanna hear a new song?” Parker asked the crowd. “You want to hear a new Tame Impala song? You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realise. There’s no going back from this point on. Alright, let’s do it. Get comfortable.”

He then played the unnamed track, which is driven by a hard electro-house beat, with Parker’s swirling vocals soaring over a bed of atmospheric keys and additional percussion. Watch the clip here:

The last new music of any description from Tame Impala was their appearance on ‘Neverender’ by Justice, which was included on the French duo’s latest album ‘Hyperdrama’ in April 2024.

Dua Lipa also brought Parker out during a show in Sydney for a cover of Tame Impala’s ‘The Less I Know The Better’ in March. The two worked together closely on ‘Radical Optimism’, with Parker serving as one of the hit album’s main producers.

He also appeared during Lipa’s headline slot at Glastonbury 2024, and later described it as “way more wild than I thought it was gonna be”.

“The nicest thing about it was that it was Dua headlining Glastonbury, which is something she has wanted to do since she was a kid,” he added. “I felt like I had a seat in someone’s dream that they were living – I was just happy to be a part of it.”

Last year, it was revealed that Parker had sold his entire music catalogue to Sony Music Publishing, including all past and future releases, both as an individual and as Tame Impala.

In a four-star review of ‘The Slow Rush’, NME wrote: “As far as follow-ups to an earth-shattering run of albums go, though this is much more than just a solid return. It is, overall, an exhilarating listen. Tame Impala are unlikely to lose any fans by embracing Parker’s pop sensibilities – genres are history, man – but you have to admire their wilful desire to push into new directions. This band aren’t rock music’s saviours; they’re so much more than that.”
