Dave Grohl has joined The Breeders as a special guest on stage to perform a cover of Pixies‘ hit track ‘Gigantic’.

The Foo Fighters frontman joined Kim Deal and Co. at their official Austin City Limits late-night show on Friday, October 13. “We’ve been touring with him,” said Deal while Grohl appeared on stage. “We’ve had a good show so far Dave OK,” she joked before starting the song.

This is not the first time that Grohl has played the track with The Breeders live. Last year. they performed the song on stage at the 2022 Vets Aid at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. They also played the track back in August when the Breeders were opening for the Foo Fighters on their headlining tour.

‘Gigantic’ was the first single released from Pixies’ debut LP, 1988’s  ‘Surfer Rosa’. The track was written by Deal and Pixies frontman Black Francis.. Deal was the longtime singer and bassist of Pixies and went on to form The Breeders in 1989. She split her time between both bands as well as solo projects and ended up leaving the Pixies in 2013.

In other news, The Breeders recently released a 30th anniversary reissue of their seminal album ‘Last Splash’.

The LP was remastered from its original analogue tapes and features two unearth archival songs, ‘Divine Mascis’ and ‘Go Man Go’, which was a track that Deal co-wrote with Francis. ‘Divine Mascis’ was an unreleased version of their track ‘Divine Hammer’ which featured Dinosaur Jr‘s J Mascis on vocals

Elsewhere, the band is  set to join Olivia Rodrigo on her 2024 ‘Guts’ world tour as opening support for select dates. This includes her four-night run at Madison Square Garden in New York City as well as four nights at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
