Watch Coldplay honour Ozzy Osbourne with cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’ 

Coldplay have paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with a moving cover of Black Sabbath‘s ‘Changes’. Check it out below.

It comes as an announcement was shared yesterday (July 22), confirming the death of the heavy metal pioneer and iconic Black Sabbath frontman. In the statement, his family said that the 76-year-old was “surrounded by love” at the time of his passing.

The likes of Ghost, Alice Cooper, Elton John, Yungblud, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Jack White, and Gojira are among the huge names paying tribute to Osbourne, as well as his former bandmates Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler.

While on stage at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville last night, Coldplay also shared their condolences and paid their respects to the music icon by covering his ballad ‘Changes’.

The song was originally shared in 1972 as part of Sabbath’s ‘Vol.4’ album, and then shared again in 2003 as a duet with Ozzy’s daughter, Kelly, containing revised lyrics.

“We’d like to dedicate this whole show to the incredible genius, talent, and character-full gift to the world who was Ozzy Osbourne,” frontman Chris Martin said at last night’s show. “We send our love to his family.”

After finishing his stripped-back cover, Martin said: “Ozzy, we love you, wherever you’re going.”

He isn’t the only artist to pay his respects to the heavy metal icon by covering the fan-favourite track. Earlier this month, Yungblud took to the stage in Birmingham to perform a powerful version of the song at Black Sabbath’s star-studded farewell show.

Dubbed ‘Back To The Beginning’, the show was held in the band’s hometown on July 5, and marked Ozzy’s final show both as a solo artist and with Black Sabbath. It also saw him raise just under £200million for charity, and featured performances from the likes of Guns N’ Roses, KoRn, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Anthrax, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and many more.

For his appearance, Yungblud covered the classic ballad with an all-star band including  Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, II from Sleep Token on drums, and Adam Wakeman of Ozzy Osbourne’s band – and son of rock legend Rick – on keys.

Shortly afterwards, he shared the live cover of the song – which was given the thumbs-up from Ozzy – as an official track, and is donating the profits to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The release was confirmed just days after footage went viral of him gifting Osbourne a custom-made gold cross backstage at the show, returning the sentiment after Ozzy gave him a necklace as a good luck charm years ago.
