Billy Idol and Avril Lavigne performed their new collaborative single ’77’ on US TV this week. Watch below.

The pop-punk-influenced song appears on Idol’s first studio in over a decade, ‘Dream Into It’, which was released last Friday (April 25).

On Monday night (April 28), the 69-year-old singer-songwriter appeared on ABC‘s late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside Lavigne.

The pair, who were both clad in black leather, traded verses and sang together on the energetic ’77’. It also saw Idol’s guitarist Steve Stevens deliver a solo.

Ahead of the performance, Idol shared a video on social media in which he explained the meaning behind the joint track.

“The song ’77’ draws on parallels between England in 1977 and the US today,” he wrote in the caption. “Having @AvrilLavigne on the song to represent the voices of today made the song 3x better.”

In the clip, he added: “The song itself has touches of the past – as well as, I think, still can be relevant today. The first verse is kind of reflecting on the outsiders in society […] It made me think about when I was young, when we started in punk-rock and stuff in England.”

Lavigne said she could “relate” to the meaning, adding: “Thank you so much for having me on the song. It’s dope – I love it. When I first heard it I was like, ‘This is badass’. You’re a legend. I’m stoked to be on it, and the song’s amazing.”

‘Dream Into It’ – Idol’s first solo album since 2014’s ‘Kings & Queens Of The Underground’ – also contains team-ups with Joan Jett, and Alison Mosshart of The Kills.

This summer, Idol will play his only UK headline show of 2025. The singer-songwriter will take to the stage at the OVO Wembley Arena on Tuesday June 24, following an appearance at the Forever Now Festival at The National Bowl in Milton Keynes two days prior (22). Find any remaining tickets here.

“Every time we play Wembley we have an absolute blast and this summer will be no exception!” Idol said in a statement. He’ll be joined at the gig by special guests and post-punk legends New Model Army.

Tonight (April 30), Idol will kick off a joint North American tour with Joan Jett. You can find any remaining tickets here.

Earlier this year, Idol appeared on the longlist for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2025. However, it was announced this week that he had not made it onto the list of this year’s inductees.
