Tony Hawk wants a remake of ‘Underground’: “I’ll campaign all I can”
Tony Hawk has revealed he has “aspirations” for a remastered version of Tony Hawk’s Underground to be released.
Tony Hawk’s Underground was released in 2003 and acted as a soft reboot for the skating series after four Pro Skater games. For the first time, Underground allowed players to explore the various stages on foot, and offered a wide-range of customisation options alongside ways for players to level-up their character’s stats.
The adventure-sport game received critical acclaim when it was released and was one of the best-selling games for PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Gamecube that year. A sequel, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, followed in 2004.
The first two Pro Skater games were remastered in 2020 and later this year, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will be released. The games have been “rebuilt from the ground up” and feature classic skaters alongside modern icons, new levels and an updated soundtrack.
In a new interview, Hawk has said he wants Underground to get the same treatment. “I always have aspirations,” he told ScreenRant. “It’s not up to me generally. I’ll campaign all I can, but I’m working with a much bigger company that’s a lot smarter than me.” He went on to say it was too early to talk about future projects because Pro Skater 3+4 still hasn’t been released.
However Hawk does have sway with Activision. Earlier this year, fans were outraged that OG skateboarder Bam Margera had seemingly been cut from Pro Skater 3+4. It was later reported that Hawk demanded he be added to the game – with his inclusion officially announced last week.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will launch July 11 and will be available on PC as well as PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles. It will also be a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass.
However fans have been complaining about the many changes made to the soundtrack. So far, just 10 classic tracks have been confirmed for the 60-song soundtrack.
Defending the changes, Hawk wrote: “It was my choice to pick some different songs by the same artists featured in ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 OST’,” he wrote on social media. “I’m hoping that discovery is half the fun, and a big reason that these soundtracks resonated in the first place. So listen and enjoy the ride. More to come… both old and new.”
In other news Tati Gabrielle, the star of Naughty Dog’s follow-up to The Last Of Us, has opened up about the hate she’s received from gaming fans.
