Tom Holland says “Old-School” ‘Spider-Man 4’ will be a “breath of fresh air”
Tom Holland has discussed returning to the role of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, talking about how filming differed from 2021’s No Way Home.
His fourth solo adventure will arrive in cinemas on July 31, 2026, ten years after his first appearance as the character in Captain America: Civil War. The film is directed by Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, and will feature the return of Holland’s cast mates Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. Sadie Sink has joined the cast in an unconfirmed role, while Jon Bernthal will appear as The Punisher.
Speaking on the Flip Your Wig YouTube channel, the actor updated fans on the project. “I’m obviously over the moon and so excited,” he said. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal. And I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID; we shot the entire film on stages”.
“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations,” he continued, “which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together. So it’s gonna feel like making Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together”.
Holland’s last film as the character, Spider-Man: No Way Home, saw him team up with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the previous actors to play Peter Parker, in a multiverse crossover. Recently, the director of that film, Jon Watts, revealed that the film’s big reveal was changed because fans had already guessed it on Reddit.
