Tina Turner, whose gritty vocals and fierce, sizzling performances powered two iconic music careers —as one-half of husband-and-wife duo Ike & Tina Turner and later as a solo star — has died, her rep confirmed to Billboard. The eight-time Grammy Award winner was 83.

Tina Turner has died at the age of 83.

A statement announcing the superstar’s death was posted to her Instagram account saying, in part, “she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work, her music….” An electrifying performer, she captivated audiences with songs like ‘Proud Mary’. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has multiple Billboard Hot 100 hits, including ‘The Best’ and her number one, ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It.’

Angela Bassett received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Tina in the film ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It?’ And currently, Tina’s life is the center of a Broadway musical.
