Taylor Swift Has Turned Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly Into a Fan

Swiftie culture knows no bounds, not even government office. Gov. Laura Kelly of Kansas revealed on Wednesday (Dec. 20) that she and her staff gave Taylor Swift‘s music a chance, and is ready to join the fandom for real.

“Now that @taylorswift13 has been spending more time in Kansas — thanks @tkelce! — my fearless staff thought it was time I drop everything now and give her music a proper listen,” Kelly captioned a photo of herself holding up an Eras Tour-style CD labeled “Governor Kelly’s Eras Playlist,” while another one of her colleagues held a signed Kansas City Chiefs football in a group photo.

The governor continued, “Check out the personalized CD with handpicked tracks I received from my staff. It pairs well with the Reputation friendship bracelet a Swiftie gave me at a recent @Chiefs game. What other songs should I check out?”

It’s no surprise that Gov. Kelly has become a Swiftie. The pop star has generated considerable revenue for Kansas City’s economy since her Eras Tour stop, and amid her romance with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce.

Per the city’s Economic Development Council, the Eras Tour shows in Kansas City generated $88.8 million in revenue, while associated costs for Swifties that totaled between $1,300 to $1,500 worth of meals, merch and other items, amounted to an overall financial impact of $185 million to $200 million for Kansas City.
