Stray Kids Make Met Gala Debut in Tommy Hilfiger

Stray Kids have finally made their way up the Met Gala stairs.

The eight-piece K-pop superstars attended their first-ever Met Gala on Monday (May 6) as guests of Tommy Hilfiger, who created custom pieces for each member in the brand’s signature red, white and blue color palette with rich gold accents. All eight Stray Kids members rocked sleek tailored suiting from the collection, underneath oversized coats.

“It’s our first time. We are stoked to be here,” Bang Chan shared in an interview with Vogue. “If it wasn’t for Tommy, we would not be here so thank you Tommy for inviting all of us.

He continued of the custom-made outfit process, “We had a lot of fitting sessions and they all went really smoothly. I personally really, really like everyone’s ‘fits.”

As for Hilfiger, he says his new spring collection is about “revisiting modern prep,” which is why he chose Stray Kids as his guests. “They are as modern as you can get. They’re modern prep and they’re superstars,” he revealed.

This year’s Met Gala exhibit theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is set to feature 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. The works will be displayed at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in new ways, including elements such as video animation, CGI, AI and more.

The dress code, meanwhile, is “The Garden of Time.” As Andrew Bolton, the head curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, told Vogue, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”
