The singer, songwriter and actor was asked about her choice of track when attending the blue carpet for the premiere of the Smurfs movie in Brussels, Belgium.

The song arrived on May 2 via Buckles Laboratories and Epic Records, and marked the lead single of the R&B singer’s fourth album. Titled ‘Hearts Sold Separately’, the record is set to arrive on August 22 and is available to pre-order here.
When it was shared this spring, ‘Burning Blue’ made its way into the singles charts, reaching Number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and becoming her highest charting entry so far. Now, after receiving a shoutout from the ‘Diamonds’ singer, it looks like the song is set to get a new wave of attention.

Rihanna was in attendance for the premiere of the Smurfs film as she not only helped produce the live-action animated musical movie, but has also taken on the role of Smurfette in the project.
According to the trailer, which arrived earlier this year, the plot seems to be centred around a number of Smurfs embarking on a long journey into different dimensions to find the missing Papa Smurf, voiced by John Goodman. Other actors contributing their voices to the film include Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, James Corden and Amy Sedaris.
It is set to arrive in cinemas on July 18.
Two months ago, Rihanna dropped the first preview of her new music for the soundtrack – sharing a song called ‘Friend Of Mine’. It marks her first material since ‘Born Again’, which arrived in November 2022 from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. She had previously shared ‘Lift Me Up’ from the movie.
‘Friend Of Mine’ was the second song to come off the Smurfs soundtrack, following ‘Higher Love’ by Desi Trill featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania and Subhi. The album arrives on June 13 via Roc Nation Distribution and also sees contributions from Cardi B and Tyla (pre-save here).
Since beginning work on the film, Ri has announced her third pregnancy with A$AP Rocky. On the blue carpet, she spoke to Entertainment Tonight and joked about if their sons RZA and Riot Rose might be getting a brother or a sister. “Let’s see if it’s a Smurfette!” she quipped. “Could be a Papa Smurf, who knows?”
