Post Malone & Swae Lee’s ‘Sunflower’ Becomes First-Ever Double-Diamond Single in RIAA History

“Sunflower” has left every other song in the dust when it comes to RIAA certifications. Post Malone and Swae Lee’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse single has become the first song in history to go double-diamond, meaning it’s reached an equivalent of 20 million sales, the RIAA announced Thursday (Feb. 8).

Released in 2018 for the animated superhero flick, “Sunflower” peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100 just over two months after it first debuted on the chart. It marked Posty’s third and Swae’s first No. 1 hit.

In November 2022, “Sunflower” surpassed Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” as the highest certified single in RIAA history, at the time just 17x platinum. The song’s double-diamond status means it is now 20x platinum with more than 20 million streams or downloads.

“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar on what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to accomplish,” said RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier in a statement. “Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Mercury/Republic Records for making history with the very first 2x diamond single!”

Last year, Post was crowned with the most diamond singles of any artist in history. He has seven other songs besides “Sunflower” that have reached the milestone: “White Iverson,” “Congratulations” (featuring Quavo), “I Fall Apart,” “Rockstar” (featuring 21 Savage), “Psycho” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign) “Better Now” and “Circles.”

The “Sunflower” news comes days ahead of the singer-rapper’s upcoming performance of “America the Beautiful” at this year’s Super Bowl, airing live from Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium Sunday (Feb. 11).
