Nintendo Switch 2 is getting forgotten GameCube classic this month

Nintendo Switch 2 owners will soon be able to play the forgotten GameCube classic Chibi-Robo! when it joins the Nintendo Switch Online Library later this month

Chibi-Robo! was released in 2005 for the GameCube. The cutesy game saw players take control of helpful robot Chibi-Robo and complete various household tasks to earn Happy Points. The world of Chibi-Robo! was also inhabited with numerous living toys while the robot’s limited-battery added a survival-puzzle element to the charming game.

The game received favourable reviews when it first launched and sequels for the Nintendo DS and 3DS followed in 2007 and 2013. The most recent game, Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash was released in 2015. In the 20 years since the original’s release, the game has developed a cult following and physical copies of Chibi-Robo! can sell for up to $250. It’s not available to play on modern consoles.

Now Chibi-Robo! is finally set to be made available for Switch 2 owners as the fifth Gamecube title to come to the Nintendo Switch Online Library. It will be free-to-play for all Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers from August 21.

“This game gets way darker than you would think. If you are on the fence about playing this please play it,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “This is the type of game that NSO was made for: something you are curious about playing, but might not actually take the jump to ‘buy’,” said another. “Literally the only game announced so far for GameCube Online I never owned nor played. Actually kinda hyped to be honest,” wrote a third.

Switch 2 users can currently play F-Zero GX, The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, SoulCalibur 2 and Super Mario Strikers via the Switch Online Library. Nintendo has also confirmed a lot more Gamecube-era titles will be coming to the service in the near future, including Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Luigi’s Mansion and Pokémon Colosseum. Exact release dates have yet to be announced.

Last week, two new patents for the Switch 2 were filed that could see the console’s Joy-Cons getting two bizarre new additions – a crank handle, and a clickable wheel.

In other news, former PlayStation-exclusive Helldivers 2 is finally coming to Xbox this month and developers have teased a Halo crossover.
