Miley Cyrus has shared a new single called ‘More To Lose’ – you can listen to it below.

The vulnerable and tender ballad serves as the final preview of the pop star’s ninth album ‘Something Beautiful’, which arrives on May 30 via Columbia. It follows her recent songs ‘Prelude’ and ‘End Of The World’, as well as the title track.

After debuting ‘More To Lose’ live last week, Cyrus has now released the studio version alongside a black-and-white official music video.

The clip was directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter – forming part of an accompanying “visual” film version of her upcoming record.

I stay when the ecstasy is far away/ And I pray that it’s coming ’round again/ And you say it/ But I wish it wasn’t true/ I knew someday that one would have to choose/ I just thought we had more to lose,” Cyrus sings in the reflective chorus.

She goes on to say that her “tears are streaming like our favourite show tonight” as she grapples with heartbreak, adding: “Memories fade like denim jeans/ I try to chase when you’re running through my mind.”

Speaking about the single, Cyrus explained: “On a song like ‘More To Lose’, I try to keep it a singular take. I add my harmonies or ad-libs at the end, but it’s really a song that’s more of a story – and I never want that to be interrupted or overthought or chasing perfection.

“I never wanted ‘More To Lose’ to feel perfect – I wanted it to sound meaningful and emotional.”

When performing the ballad for the first time recently, the singer told the audience: “I have a lot of people that I’ve known and loved for a very long time in this room. Even a couple of exes.” During the first verse, she quipped: “It’s like an instant classic.”

Cyrus is credited as an executive producer on ‘Something Beautiful’, alongside Shawn Everett (Kacey MusgravesAlabama Shakes). She previously suggested that the “bold” album would be inspired by Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’.

“We really leaned in. And so I have this heart-first attachment to it. My idea was making ‘The Wall’, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture,” Cyrus said.

In a four-star review of her preview record, ‘Endless Summer Vacation’NME wrote: “It all adds up to an album that holds your full attention even if it isn’t Cyrus’s boldest or most visionary. ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ certainly feels like an accurate reflection of who she is as an artist – and a person – in 2023.”
