Mia Goth set to star in Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ alongside Ryan Gosling

Mia Goth has joined the cast of Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, which also stars Ryan Gosling.

Following months of speculation, news of Gosling’s casting was unveiled in April during the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo. Set five years after 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the film will go into production this autumn before premiering on May 28 2027, exclusively in theatres.

At the Tokyo event, director Levly revealed that the film is “a standalone” that will focus on new characters within the Star Wars universe, adding: “It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.”

Gosling went on to say the script was “so good”, and it had “a great story with great and original characters.

“It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

It had previously been reported that Anora Oscar-winner Mikey Madison passed on a supporting role offer in the film, and now MaXXXine star Goth has been announced as it’s newest cast member, per Variety.

Details surrounding her role in the Jonathon Tropper penned project currently being kept under wraps.

She is next set to appear in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein alongside Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, as well as in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey with ZendayaAnne HathawayMatt Damon, and Robert Pattinson.

Levy’s previous Disney film – Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine – became the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time, grossing $1.33 billion worldwide.

The next film in the Star Wars universe will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, currently set for release on May 22, 2026. While there hasn’t been a big screen adventure since 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker, the franchise has continued on TV, with the recent finale of Skeleton Crew being warmly received by fans.

Meanwhile, Gosling produced the recent horror Wolf Man, and is set to appear in sci-fi film Project Hail Mary in 2026. Recently, Saoirse Ronan reflected on the time she and Gosling almost worked together on 2009’s The Lovely Bonessaying she was “sad” the actor was fired from the movie.
