Mammoth WVH Nabs Second Straight Top Hard Rock Albums No. 1

Mammoth WVH makes it two-for-two atop Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart, as Mammoth II debuts at No. 1 on the tally dated Aug. 19.

In the Aug. 4-10 tracking week, Mammoth II opened with 22,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate. Of that sum, 20,000 units are via album sales.

It’s the Wolfgang Van Halen-led band’s second No. 1 on Top Hard Rock Albums, following debut album Mammoth WVH, which premiered atop the June 26, 2021, survey with 31,000 units.

With two No. 1s in two tries, Mammoth WVH is the first act to send its first two Top Hard Rock Albums full-length entries to the top spot since Greta Van Fleet, which doubled up with 2018’s Anthem of the Peaceful Army and 2021’s The Battle at Garden’s Gate (and continued its streak with Starcatcher this summer).

Mammoth II also starts at Nos. 3 and 6 on the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums lists, respectively. On the all-genre Billboard 200, the set begins at No. 28.

The album’s lead single, “Another Celebration at the End of the World,” peaked at No. 7 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay ranking in June, as well as at No. 10 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart in July. A follow-up single has not yet been announced.

One other song from the album makes a Billboard chart: “I’m Alright” debuts at No. 19 on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales. “Another Celebration at the End of the World” hit No. 18 on the survey in April.
