‘Lupin’: season four confirmed, production already underway
Lupin will return for a fourth season, Netflix has announced.
On Tuesday (May 13), Netflix made a surprise announcement in which the streaming platform not only announced season four, but revealed that production is already underway. A teaser video sees images from the show’s first seasons held up against iconic French landmarks, ending with star Omar Sy at the Eiffel Tower where he turns to camera, saying: “I’m back”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, season four is set to consist of eight episodes, each running for 45 minutes apiece.
In a statement, Sy said of season four (or part four, as Netflix dubs it): “I often say that Lupin is an extraordinary plaything. I find great joy in it every time. Together with Netflix, Carrousel, and Gaumont, we’ve invested the time needed to raise our ambitions and deliver even more surprises and enjoyment, both for us and the audience. The fresh energy from Carrousel Studios aligns perfectly with this vision. I’m eager to share the new episodes with as many people as possible.”
Season three of Lupin, released in 2023, saw Assane (Sy) turning himself in to the police after realising his family would only be able to lead a peaceful life if he sacrificed himself. Prior to his surrender, he stop the Black Pear, garnered the support of the French public, saved his estranged mother’s life and even faked his own death. The third season ended with him behind bars.
A release date for Lupin season four has yet to be announced.
The series takes inspiration from Arsène Lupin, the character of a master thief created by French novelist Maurice Leblanc in the 1900s, and references Leblanc’s books in the story.
