Liam Gallagher has apologised to fans after posting a racial slur on X/Twitter, saying that he does “not discriminate”.

The Oasis frontman shared a term used to mock East Asians on the social media platform on Tuesday (July 1), but it has since been deleted.

Gallagher later issued an apology via his account, writing: “Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. peace and love LG x.”

He has also reshared the statement on his Instagram Stories feed. You can see the tweet below.

Responding to Gallagher’s original post that contained the word, one follower wrote: “Liam you can’t say that.” He replied: “Why.” Someone else told him he was “gonna get cancelled” over the tweet. He commented: “Whatever.”

The slur used by Gallagher is widely recognised as a derogatory impersonation of Asian accents. It is largely used to mock people of Chinese origin or those who are perceived to be Chinese.

As The Independent notes, the term was often seen during the COVID pandemic when there was an increase in anti-Asian hate crimes globally, sparked by racist rhetoric and the spread of misinformation.

Gallagher’s tweet came just three days before Oasis play the first show of their 2025 reunion tour. They’ll take to the stage at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff tomorrow night (July 4) before playing a second gig there on Saturday (5). The UK and Ireland leg of Oasis Live ’25 also includes seven dates at London’s Wembley Stadium, five nights at Manchester’s Heaton Park, as well as stops in Edinburgh and Dublin, before the band play massive shows in North AmericaSouth AmericaAustraliaSouth Korea and Japan later this year.

It’ll mark the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher have performed on stage together in 16 years. The rest of the line-up – as exclusively revealed by NME – is comprised of past members Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, along with newcomer Joey Waronker on drums.

Meanwhile, audio clips of Oasis’ soundchecks at the Principality Stadium have emerged online, giving hints at what fans can expect from the setlist. However, Liam has since confirmed that the snippets were “recording[s] from rehearsals” that had been played through the venue’s speakers, rather than the band playing there in person.

Last month, the reunited Liam and Noel appeared together in an Adidas Originals advert as part of a new partnership with the brand.

In other news, the UK competition watchdog has written to Ticketmaster threatening legal action over its “misleading” methods of selling tickets for the Oasis reunion tour.
