Is ‘In Flight’ based on a true story?

A flight attendant finds her life turned upside down in Channel 4 series In Flight.

Created by Mike Walden and Adam Randall, the crime thriller follows flight attendant Jo (Katherine Kelly) who enters the world of drug smuggling when her teenage son is jailed for murder in Bulgaria.

Other cast members include Stuart Martin, Ashley Thomas, Bronagh Waugh, Harry Cadby, Corinna Brown and Ambreen Razia.

All six episodes, directed by Chris Baugh, were released on Channel 4 on August 12, 2025.

Is In Flight based on a true story?

While the show sounds like it could be based on truth, In Flight is entirely fictional. The show’s creators, Mike Walden and Adam Randall, previously helmed the likes of Marcella, Whitstable Pearl, Slow Horses, and I See You.

Speaking about the show, Walden and Randall said: “In Flight is our spin on the noir genre, a high stakes, stylish, romantic thriller with iconic characters and nerve-shredding action. Channel 4 is the perfect home for our story and we’re excited to be collaborating with such a brilliant team.

“Jo is a character close to our hearts. She is an ordinary woman facing extraordinary odds. We can’t wait for audiences to meet her.”

Where was the show filmed?

While In Flight is set in various locations around the world, including London, Bangkok in Thailand, Istanbul in Turkey, and Bulgaria, the show was filmed in Belfast. The series was supported by funding from Northern Ireland Screen.
