Here Are the 2024 Premio Lo Nuestro Winners

Karol G continued her winning streak as the most decorated artist at Premio Lo Nuestro on Thursday (Feb. 22). The Colombian hitmaker won a total of nine awards, including artist of the year — beating out acts like Bad Bunny, Maluma and Peso Pluma — album of the year for Mañana Será Bonito, female artist of the year and tour of the year. The big winner of the night was not in attendance as she’s currently on her Mañana Será Bonito tour in Latin America.

Meanwhile, Maluma, who was in the building and was the most nominated artist with 14 nods, took home four awards, including pop male artist of the year. Shakira, Peso Pluma and Carin León also took four awards each. It’s worth noting that most of the awards were announced online; only a handful of the 38 categories were televised. Ángela Aguilar and Yuridia were the first winners of the night, taking home mariachi/ranchera song of the year for their duet “Qué Agonía.” It was not only Yuridia’s first time winning at Premio Lo Nuestro, but her first time ever at that awards show. During their heartfelt speech, Aguilar had a special message to little girls watching: “Please continue writing, get into Mexican music, women can do it too.”

The next winner was also a woman. Argentine star Tini won her first Premio Lo Nuestro for Cupido, which took home pop-urban album of the year. “Cupido was a very, very special album in my life and I think it’s going to be that way forever, so well, every once in a while it’s OK to get your heart broken,” Tini said. “My first Lo Nuestro award!”

Another emotional speech came from Eslabon Armado, who went up to accept Mexican Music song of the year for the smash hit “Ella Baila Sola” with Peso Pluma. “I want to thank God, to the great team of Eslabon and my compa Peso Pluma. I want to express our gratitude to all of you and share a little bit of our back story. My parents are immigrants from Mexico and they made the decision to leave everything to come to the united states and give us the best. We feel very proud. To all the kids at home that have big dreams, don’t stop fighting, keep making music, anything is possible,” said Pedro Tovar, the band’s frontman.

The 36th annual Premio Lo Nuestro, which took place live from Kaseya Center in Miami, mainly centered on performances, with nearly 20 musical numbers taking place throughout the three-hour show. The ceremony kicked off with Maluma who is clearly in his regional Mexican era opening the show with his música mexicana hit “Según Quién” sans Carin León. He then performed the corrido feliz “Bling Bling,” his latest collab with Octavio Cuadras and Marca Registrada, also without his collaborators.

Other big moments of the night included Leon and Kane Brown taking the stage to perform a premiere of their new collaboration “The One (Pero No Como Yo);” Gloria Trevi’s epic set performing alongside Banda MS “Y Que Soporten” followed by an epic performance of “Medusa;” and Gente de Zona’s special performance of “Celia,” using original recordings from Celia Cruz to create an infectious medley of her songs “Ella Tiene Fuego” and “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” The special honorees were Don Omar, Ana Bárbara and Olga Tañón and all gave riveting performances and emotional speeches.
