Grupo Firme Signs Global Deal With Universal Music Publishing Group

Mexican music band Grupo Firme has signed an exclusive global publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), the company announced Monday (Aug. 21). The band’s independent label, Music VIP Entertainment, is also part of the deal.

“UMPG has earned a place in regional Mexican as the leading publisher, and this gives us all the confidence for our composers,” Isael Gutiérrez, CEO of Music VIP Entertainment and Grupo Firme’s manager, said in a statement. “We are proud of having learned and achieved so much independently in the most adverse circumstances but moving forward, we want to continue this positive trend alongside
knowledgeable and trusted partners such as them.”

Last month, Grupo Firme wrapped its tour in Central America, during which it performed in countries such as Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. That trek was preceded by a handful of arena and stadium tour dates in the United States. Currently, Grupo Firme has eight No. 1 hits on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart, and four top 10 entires on the Hot Latin Songs chart, including “El Toxico” with Carin Leon and the Maluma-assisted “Cada Quien.”

“We are thrilled to be representing Grupo Firme and Music VIP Entertainment during this global surge in Mexican music,” added Yadira Moreno, UMPG’s MD of Mexico and Central America/vp of new business development for Latin America. “There is greatness in everything that they set their mind to, and we are thankful to be chosen as part of this. We have the best team to support their journey and are passionate for this generational music.”

Grupo Firme’s signing to UMPG comes nearly a month after the publishing company announced an exclusive global publishing deal with Jenni Rivera’s estate. Besides Grupo Firme and Jenni Rivera, its roster includes other regional Mexican powerhouses such as Juan Gabriel, Espinosa Paz, Horacio Palencia and Yahritza Y Su Esencia, which signed with UMPG in May.
