Grand Theft Auto boss Strauss Zelnick is convinced that the long-awaited GTA 6 won’t be delayed again.

Grand Theft Auto 6 was first revealed at the end of 2023 with a short teaser trailer that confirmed the long-awaited sequel to GTA 5 would launch at some point in 2025.

However, after months of silence from developers Rockstar Games, it was confirmed in May that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed to 2026. A new trailer was also released alongside new character descriptions, maps and plot details.

Rockstar has once again gone quiet though, with fans starting to worry that GTA 6’s May 26, 2026 release date could change again. In a new interview with CNBC (via Kotaku), boss of publishers Take-Two Strauss Zelnick has said that he’s convinced there won’t be any more delays.

“My level of conviction is very, very high. Rockstar does have a lot of other things going on, but this is of course the primary focus,” he explained. “We try not to pump expectations, right? I think Rockstar’s whole stock and trade is to have these extraordinary expectations and still beat them. I know that’s their goal. I know it’s going to be an amazing game. The rest we’ll see in the fullness of time.”

Before the GTA 6 delay was announced, Zelnick said there was a “risk” of the release date moving but felt “really good” about a 2025 launch. He also said the game would be “worth” waiting for.

In a statement shared by Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto 6 was delayed so developers can deliver “the level of quality” fans expect after a “truly humbling” level of interest and excitement.

More recently, Travis Scott included a subtle GTA easter egg in his music video for ‘2000 Excursion’ with some fans speculating the rapper will appear in the game. There have also been rumours that ScHoolboy Q, T-Pain and Megan Thee Stallion could also feature in Grand Theft Auto 6.

In other news, Zelnick has promised that the long-awaited BioShock 4 hasn’t been cancelled despite reports that the project is in “turmoil”.
