Every song on the ‘Beth’ soundtrack

Beth is the new short film from Channel 4’s digital platform, but what songs feature on the soundtrack? Read on for all the info.

The 35-minute sci-fi drama stars Nicholas Pinnock (This Town) and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Joe and Molly, a successful couple who are facing fertility challenges. They long for a child and after several setbacks, Molly becomes pregnant – but will the child resemble Joe, and is Molly being completely honest? Or is there something more extraordinary going on?

Beth is written and directed by Uzo Oleh (Edicius), and it is available to watch in full on Channel 4’s YouTube channel now, as well as on the channel’s streaming service.

Speaking about the project, Oleh has said: “Bringing Beth to life has been an extraordinary journey, made possible by the support of my producers and commissioners, who championed the vision at every turn. Collaborating with Nicholas and Abbey has been an honour, the depth and nuance they bring to their performances elevates the story beyond what I could have imagined.”

“Every department, from design to cinematography, is filled with world-class artists who poured their hearts into crafting something both intimate and universal, all while pretending not to notice when I cried during takes. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created together. Beth is a testament to what’s possible when passionate, talented individuals unite to reimagine one of the oldest stories ever told.”

Beth features an original score from Thomas Farnon, who is known for his work on Mammals, The Lego Batman Movie and Wonder Woman.

In addition, it makes memorable use of ‘The Big Unknown’ by Sade. The song plays during a scene in which Molly realises that she may finally have successfully conceived, with its luscious production and contemplative lyrics adding dimensions to the dramatic developments.

‘The Big Unknown’ was released in 2018 and was also notably used in Steve McQueen’s film Widows in the same year.
