Crowded House Reigns on Top TV Songs Via ‘Magnum P.I.’ Synch

After its synch in the 14th episode of Magnum P.I.’s fifth season, Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over” appears at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind, for October 2023.

Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending that data with sales and streaming information tracked by Luminate during the corresponding period of October 2023.

“Don’t Dream It’s Over” appeared in the Oct. 25 episode of the reboot of the drama series, the original iteration of which aired in the 1980s. After four seasons on CBS, the show’s fifth season premiered Feb. 19 on NBC.

The song was the Australian band’s top-performing song on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 2 in April 1987.

In October 2023, “Don’t Dream It’s Over” earned 4.6 million official on-demand U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads, according to Luminate.

A plethora of songs from Disney+ and Hulu’s Goosebumps dot the rest of the chart – five in all in the top 10. Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” leads the pack at No. 2 (19.2 million streams, 2,000 downloads), followed by Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” at No. 3 (13.2 million streams, 1,000 downloads), while the other three — Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” (No. 6; 10.2 million streams, 1,000 downloads), The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” (No. 9; 7.1 million streams, 1,000 downloads) and Elastica’s “Connection” (No. 10; 582,000 streams) — are tunes featured in the series that were released in the ‘90s.

The first five episodes of Goosebumps premiered Oct. 13, moving to once-a-week episodes in the weeks since.
