Chris Brown Denied Bail in U.K. After Arrest for Alleged 2023 Nightclub Attack

Chris Brown was denied bail during a court hearing for his assault charge in Manchester, England, on Friday (May 16), according to Reuters.

The singer was taken into custody on Thursday (May 15) after being arrested at his Manchester hotel and charged with “inflicting grievous bodily harm,” which has been tied to a February 2023 London nightclub attack allegedly involving Brown.

According to Reuters, prosecutor Hannah Nicholls told the courtroom that Brown delivered an alleged “unprovoked attack with a weapon in a nightclub full of people” against producer-promoter Abraham Diaw at Tape in Central London.

Judge Joanne Hirst remanded Brown into custody as the singer was denied bail and will remain behind bars until his next court date, which is slated for June 13 at London’s Southwark Crown Court.

Billboard has reached out to Chris Brown’s reps for comment.

Per The Independent, Abraham Diaw accused Brown of smashing him with a bottle over the head, then proceeding to kick him at the Tape nightclub. Diaw also filed a civil complaint against Chris Brown for $16 million, while seeking damages for injuries and losses as a result of the alleged altercation.

The arrest has put Brown’s Breezy Bowl XX tour in jeopardy. The global stadium trek is slated to kick off in Europe on June 8 with a show in Amsterdam before coming stateside on July 30 for a Miami concert. Billboard has reached out to Live Nation for comment on the upcoming tour.
