Gomez and David Henrie, who played magical siblings Alex and Justin Russo on the original Wizards, will reprise their roles.
The main cast of the upcoming series has already been set.
"She had a million other things going on and she wanted to move forward," Stone said of Gomez's decision to not pursue a spinoff.
