"When we started thinking about making a song for the film, Nick felt like the perfect artist to do it," explains director Clint Bentley.
"You are a citizen of the world and a citizen of Arles," Mayor Patrick de Carolis said to Cave during an award ceremony over the weekend.
"I realised that although each of us is special and unique, our pain and brokenness is not," Cave explained in response to questions from fans.
"I try to keep politics, cultural or otherwise, out of the music I am involved with," Cave wrote on his website.
"There has always been a persistent and somewhat perplexing confusion surrounding our names," Cave claimed about his similarly-named counterpart.
"I don’t think there’s a day that goes by where I’m not mistaken for Nick Cave," Cage explains.
“Tonight was a fantastic celebration of Australian music and the remarkable artists this country produces,” said editor-in-chief Neil Griffiths.
"That comment has followed me around for the last quarter-century," Cave stated.
"They’re, with all sincerity, trying to get to the bottom of this sort of predicament of my life," says Cave.
Years after calling him "our greatest artist", Nick Cave has chosen a Kanye West track as his funeral soundtrack.
