The publishing executive is just the third woman to receive the award.
“I am grateful to be recognized by my peers in the music industry," says Gerson.
The singer-songwriter was previously signed to Sony Music Publishing.
"On an everyday level she helps make the industry better," said Ralph Peer II, who presented the award named after him.
It's another first for the Universal Music Publishing Group chairman and CEO.
