Can you play ‘Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’ without playing ‘Death Stranding’ 1

Death Stranding 2 Play Without Death Stranding 1: Higgs can be seen

Kojima’s games are complex webs of story threads, plot points, grounded realism, otherworldly events, deep themes, and intricate characters, which can make getting into them a challenge. But, is Death Stranding 2: On The Beach one of those games? Can you play Death Stranding 2 without playing the first Death Stranding?

Thankfully, we have spent dozens of hours with the sequel and can give you a definitive answer.

You don’t need to play Death Stranding 1 to play Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Death Stranding 2 does a great job of summarising the events in the original game throughout its runtime, and there is a lore glossary in-game known as The Corpus, which can be used to revisit any plot point in the original or the sequel.

On top of that, there is a full Death Stranding recap option, which can be accessed from the main menu that runs through the key events and plot points from that game. While it won’t cover everything, it gives you the knowledge to follow everything going on in the sequel.

Even still, it does help if you have played the original game or at least watched all the cutscenes. This ensures you are all caught up on everything going on, as well as all the characters and their individual stories. It also means you will be familiar with the series’ unique gameplay and appreciate all the improvements and quality-of-life changes that have been added to this sequel.

But, you can play the game fresh without any experience with Death Stranding and still enjoy everything it has to offer.
