Bruce Springsteen shares verdict on Stephen Graham’s portrayal of his dad in new film
Bruce Springsteen has shared his verdict on Stephen Graham‘s portrayal of his father in new biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere.
The upcoming drama stars Jeremy Allen White as the ‘Dancing In The Dark’ singer, with the film focusing on the making of 1982 album ‘Nebraska’.
Graham takes on the role of Douglas Springsteen in the film, and the singer was full of praise for his take on his parent.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Springsteen said Graham was “a little otherworldly, and also quite touching”.
The Adolescence star previously revealed that the music icon had sent “the most gorgeous texts I’ve ever had in my life” to share how his portrayal moved him.
“I’m racing to get to the airport, and I got this text, and it was so beautiful. It just said: ‘Better than any award that I could ever receive in my life’. He’s an icon. He’s a hero,” Graham told Soundtracking.
“He’s a working-class hero. He’s an icon to thousands, to millions. And his text just said, ‘Thank you so much. You know, my father passed away a while ago and I felt like I saw him today and thank you for giving me that memory.’
“I was crying reading the text, do you know what I mean? Oh mate, it was beautiful. You couldn’t ask for anything more, you know, to share that with someone was gorgeous. He’s a lovely man.”
The first trailer for Deliver Me From Nowhere was released last week, showcasing a first proper look at White in character.
Springsteen has since said there were moments of his life portrayed in the film that were so painful that some days he couldn’t be on set.
“I mean, there’s some unusualness to it because the movie involves, in some ways, some of the most painful days of my life,” he told Rolling Stone. “If there was a scene coming up that was sometimes really deeply personal, I wanted the actors to feel completely free, and I didn’t want to get in the way, and so I would just stay at home.”
Alongside White and Graham, the film stars Succession‘s Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s manager and record producer Jon Landau, Cruella‘s Paul Walter Hauser as recording engineer Mike Batlan and The Stand‘s Odessa Young as love interest Faye.
In other news, Springsteen has been hitting out at Donald Trump in recent months, and in his latest interview he criticised the US President once again, saying he hasn’t “lived through a time like this” in his “entire life”, further calling that the administration’s immigration raids “disgusting and dehumanising”.
