‘Assassin’s Creed’ fans think a ‘Black Flag’ remake is on the way
Assassin’s Creed fans are convinced a remake of Black Flag is imminent after a voice actor dropped some major clues.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was originally released in 2013 and was praised by reviewers for its seamless open-world, the return of multiplayer and how it expanded on the world of Assassin’s Creed. Twelve years later, it remains one of the most beloved entries in the long-running franchise.
Rumours about a remake have been circulating since 2023 and last November, it was reported that publishers Ubisoft wanted to release ten Assassin’s Creed games in the next five years, with a remake of Black Flag among those titles.
Now fans are convinced news about a Black Flag remake is imminent. Over the weekend, Edward Kenway’s voice actor Matt Ryan was doing a signing at a convention and asked one fan if they’d beaten the game. They told the Black Flag star they had, to which he replied, “Well, you may have to beat it again.” He then looked at the camera that was filming him and added: “There’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything.”
Edward Kenway's voice actor, Matt Ryan, said this during a fan interaction. It looks like he hinted at the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake.

“At this point, this is among the worst kept secrets in games,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I have such high hopes for this game,” added another.
However the news about the remake has also divided the fanbase. “Okay but…why? This was the best Assassin’s Creed but at the time it was novel and unique. Now, an open world AC game where you pilot a boat and crew around oceans and islands while doing AC mission is literally the AC formula. What’s the point of this,” asked one fan.
“No other AC game had a focus on naval combat like Black Flag did. In games like Odyssey you technically own a ship but it was clunky and a small part of the story, while in others like Shadows the closest you get is sailing a tiny rowboat. People loved Black Flag, people love the casual nature of AC games, and Ubisoft loves money. The only surprising thing about this remake is it took them this long to make it,” replied another.
The most recent Assassin’s Creed game was Shadows, which was praised by fans and critics alike. “Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the series refresh badly needed after Valhalla, showcasing a huge technical and visual upgrade alongside a new gameplay blueprint,” read the five-star NME review. “A fantastic story and well-developed characters ground the game in a believable era of Japan that is fun to explore. It confidently sets the standard for the next games in the franchise.”
In other news, Grand Theft Auto fans have been mocking a new episode of The Simpsons which features a few references to 2004’s San Andreas.
