‘Arcane’ producers tease continuation of Caitlyn and Vi’s story

The Arcane: League Of Legends saga could continue with a spin-off focusing on fan-favourite characters Caitlyn and Vi – find out more below.

The second and final season of Arcane hit Netflix in November, cementing the end of the series. However, Riot Games have long been vocal that several spin-offs have been in the works.

Speaking about the decision to end the show, co-creator Christian Linke said previously: “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

The end of Arcane set-up a spin-off with Mel taking on the role of a Noxian warlord and heading back to Noxus to rule over house Medarda. Caitlyn and Vi may have finally got their happy ending but the show left things open to continue their story, while League Of Legends champions Orianna and Swain were also teased.

During a recent panel discussion with Variety, screenwriter and co-executive producer Amanda Overton and head of Riot Games’ animation studio, Christian Linke teased that Vi and Caitlyn’s story might not be over yet.

“Well, that’s a tough one. I have to say no comment, because… you never know. That’s a shitty answer, but it’s in your favour,” Linke said when a fan asked if a spin-off would further explore Caitlyn and Vi’s relationship. His response reportedly drew a rabid applause from the audience in attendance.

Overton shared on where she thinks a spin-off could go: “These characters are very young in the show. They’re like 20 or whatever. We haven’t seen Vi, or frankly Caitlyn, become adults yet. The show was them becoming adults. Now they get to ask themselves, ‘Who am I when I don’t have anyone to protect? Because all she did the entire show was try to protect someone besides herself.”

Overton continued: “Figuring out who Vi is and what she wants, and how she fits into being a cop, and who she decides to fight for and why — those are stories we have not yet explored at length. Is she a gumshoe investigator? Are they a crime-fighting duo? Do they go out to the wider world and encounter other champions? That would be dope and fun. I want Vi to get to see more of the world.”

Following the release of season two, Riot Games released a deluxe edition of the show’s soundtrack last month featuring Stray KidsFever 333AshnikkoTom Morellod4vd and Coldplay’s extended version of Stromae and Pomme’s viral hit ‘Ma Meilleure Ennemie’.

However, a number of fans were annoyed that a live version of Twenty One Pilots’ ‘The Line’ wasn’t included. The song was originally featured on the season two soundtrack and the band performed it at the 2024 Game Awards alongside fellow Arcane artists d4vd and Royal And The Serpent.
