Amidst Foo Fighters rumours, Taylor Hawkins’ son Shane will be touring with Chevy Metal

Taylor Hawkins‘ son Shane has been announced to tour with Chevy Metal – despite rumours he would be joining the Foo Fighters.

Just days ago, formers Foos drummer Josh Freese announced he was fired from the band, saying the band called him to say they decided “to go in a different direction with their drummer”. No additional reason was given.

This led to speculation about who might take Freese’s place. Many suggesting Taylor Hawkins’ son could take his late father’s previous position as their drummer – especially as he has played with the Foos on recent tours and at Taylor’s tribute shows.

However, Shane has revealed on Instagram that he’ll be touring with covers band Chevy Metal instead. The band was founded by Taylor, and Shane has played with the band since he was eleven.

The now 18-year-old added that touring with Chevy Metal was “gunna be a blast”.

It’s still unknown who will be replacing Freese, who joined the Foos as their touring drummer in 2023, following the sudden passing of their drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.

Prior to that, he had played for Guns N’ RosesNine Inch NailsParamoreDevo and more. Regardless of his firing, Freese wrote that “I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.”

He added: “In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry – I’m shocked and disappointed.”

Freese then teased a “Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted form the Foo Fighters” list, which he then jokingly published yesterday (May 19).

Meanwhile, the Foo Fighters will play their first show of 2025 at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix.
