NME’s latest star of The Cover, Alessi Rose, has put together an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Derby-born alt-pop singer-songwriter is on this week’s (July 21) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read Alessi Rose’s profile here, written by Laura Molloy and featuring photography by Bella Howard.

To accompany The Cover, Rose has collated an exclusive playlist to of ‘Songs To Imagine Me Whispering In Your Ear Whilst Draped In Lace’. Her choices include tracks by the likes of Madonna, Addison Rae, Magdalena Bay, Phoenix, and Wolf Alice, among others. Listen to it in full on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

In The Cover, Rose discussed the references she makes to Roman Catholic iconography in her visuals and how that links with her writing about love and romantic devotion. “I have always been inspired by the relationship between worship and unrequited love,” she said. “When you are so devoted to a god, you’re giving so much energy, and maybe sometimes you’re not getting the energy back. When I am going through the process of crushing on someone, there is so much energy invested into this thing, and who knows if it even exists.”

Elsewhere, she also spoke about the frankness with which she writes about sex, her growth as an artist and her new EP ‘Voyeur’, which is released on Friday (July 25). “I just feel like I’m finally comfortable with my position as an artist now, and I’m no longer just seeing myself as a girl who writes songs or a girl who sings or a girl who performs on stage. I am an artist, and this is an artist’s project,” she explained.
