Fans react to Oasis’ “unbelievable” first night of Wembley residency: “Our band is back”

Oasis fans have taken to social media to say their first night at Wembley Stadium was “unbelievable”.

Last night (July 25), the Britpop giants played the first of seven Live ’25 dates at London’s Wembley Stadium, following two gigs in Cardiff and a five-night homecoming residency at Manchester’s Heaton Park.

They mark their first gigs together since Liam and Noel’s 2009 split, and will continue on Saturday (26), next Wednesday (July 30), Saturday (August 2) and Sunday (3), wrapping up after the huge reunion tour hits Edinburgh, Dublin and North America, after which they’ll head back to London for an additional two concerts at Wembley on September 27 and 28.

The Gallagher brothers strode onstage to huge cheers from the crowd before storming through hits like ‘Acquiesce’, ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, with Liam teasing the crowd before the latter: “Don’t be booing Arsenal Fans. Just because you’re not top of the league. It isn’t our fucking problem.”

Further along in the set, Noel introduced ‘Half The World Away’, on which he took lead vocals, by saying: “This next one’s for the Royal Family. The real Royle Family.” Fans on social media said the energy for their first night at Wembley was “incredible”, with many reporting that the crowd were so loud when the opening songs played, you almost couldn’t hear Oasis.

“Never seen anything like it,” one X/Twitter user said, with another adding: “What a fuckin sight and sound that is.”

Elsewhere in the show, Oasis dedicated ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ to Ozzy Osbourne, projecting a huge portrait of Ozzy on stage during ‘Live Forever’, before Liam told the 81,000-strong crowd they would be dedicating the next song to “Ozzy Osbourne, Rock ‘N’ Roll Star” and launched into the 1994 track.

Ahead of their four-song encore, Noel announced: “This next song is for all the Manchester City supporters in the house. It’s called The Masterplan.” Before Liam wrapped up, proceeding with the final song of the night.

“You’ve been amazing, man. Mad as fuck,” he said. “This one’s called Champagne Supernova. Thank you very much.”

After the gig, fans were quick to share clips of the concert and say they’d “go again in a heartbeat”.

“I’m not even a die-hard Oasis fan (I know all their songs before the gatekeepers kick off),” wrote one attendee. “But I just saw them live at Wembley and it was by a mile the best gig I’ve ever seen.” You can check out more social media reactions below.

NME gave the band’s first show of the tour in Cardiff a glowing five-star review. “After a ‘90s heyday and an often maligned post-millennium era, this is Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century,” it read. “Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”
