Three dead and 16 injured after shooting at Chicago album launch party
New reports share that three people have been killed and 16 have been left injured after a shooting took place at an album launch party in Chicago.
The incident took place last night (Wednesday July 2) during an album release party for a local rap artist called Mello Buckzz. The live music event was being held at the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue, at the Artis Lounge nightclub in the city’s downtown area.
Local police have since shared that it was a drive-by shooting that occurred, and 19 people have been said to have been shot during the attack. Three have been confirmed to have been killed, while the remaining 16 are injured.
Chris King, a spokesperson for Northwestern Medicine, has said that emergency services are evaluating several injured people from the shooting, but were not allowed to publicly share details around their conditions, nor how many were rushed to the hospital at this time (as per The Mirror).
This isn’t the first time a mass shooting has happened outside the location. Back in November 2022, another attack was carried out near the venue when it was then known as the Hush Lounge.
That attack left one person dead and three injured, and the club was forced to close as a result.
It is not yet clear if those responsible for the most recent drive-by shooting have been apprehended by police, nor is it clear why the attack was carried out. It is reported to have taken place as visitors were leaving the launch party event late last night.
This is a developing story, and more details about the incident and the victims are expected to be shared at a later date.
