'Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra'

Marvel’s next big game has been delayed until 2026 to allow developers time to add “more polish”.

Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra was first announced back in 2021, led by Uncharted creator Amy Hennig. The action-adventure game is set during World War 2 and follows Steve Rogers’ Captain America teaming up with early Black Panther, Azzuri, to stop evil organisation Hydra.

The game had been set to launch later this year but developers have now confirmed Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra will be released at some point in 2026 instead.

“We have an important update: Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra will now be launching in early 2026,” said a brief statement. “Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish, and make sure we give you the best possible experience, and one that lives up to our vision. We have some exciting things in store and look forward to sharing more soon!”

“We really wanted the visual fidelity to be high so that you could kind of forget that you’re looking at a game, that it should feel and look and sound and smell like you’re watching a great Marvel movie or TV show, but you’re driving the action,” Hennig said in an an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year.

Despite being announced four years ago, the only glimpse of Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra has come via a short story trailer which was shared last year. No gameplay of Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra has been released.

“In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WW2 into the ultimate rise of Hydra,” reads an official synopsis.

In the Entertainment Weekly interview, Hennig also said the WW2 setting “led us to do a bunch of interesting things [with the game]. One of which was to not only tell a story with a young Steve Rogers who’s still trying to find his feet, as opposed to the more seasoned guy that we’ve seen in a lot of the films. It also let us introduce a new Black Panther of 1943.”

“It led us to tap into all the things that I love, all of the wonderful tropes of World War 2-era adventure films, classic men-on-a-mission movies and all of that,” Hennig continued. “There’s a lot of intrigue in our story, a lot of twists and turns, fascinating characters, and interesting locations.”

In other news, the title of the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been revealed – and gaming fans are stoked.
