Tory Lanez shares update on prison attack, says he’s “in good spirits” despite “being in pain”

Tory Lanez has shared an update on his recent prison attack, claiming he’s been stabbed 14 times.

Yesterday (May 12), it was reported the Canadian rapper had been hospitalised after being stabbed by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi. The injuries were apparently non-life-threatening and the motive for the attack was not known at this time.

The rapper was sentenced to 10 years in jail in August 2023 over an incident in July 2020, where he was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in her feet.

Now, Lanez has provided an update on his condition. On Instagram, a third party has posted a statement claiming he was stabbed 14 times, including “7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face”.

The attack reportedly caused both of Lanez’s lungs to collapse, resulting in the rapper requiring a breathing apparatus. The update shares that he is now able to breathe on his own, and “despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits”. Prison officials have told the BBC that an investigation is underway; they did not give a motive for the incident.

In December 2022, Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) was found guilty of three felonies related to the shooting. Prosecutors on the case were seeking a 13-year sentence, while the maximum sentence he could have received was 22 years and eight months. He is eligible for parole in 2029.

Megan has since successfully obtained a five-year restraining order against Lanez, telling the court she feared she may be shot again if Lanez were released from prison. The restraining order now will be in place until January 2030.

In her documentary Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, released last October via Amazon Prime Video, the rapper opened up about the shooting, and she had also previously issued a “final” response to the incident in April 2023.

Last April, Megan’s attorneys requested that a judge hold Lanez in contempt of court due to his behaviour during a deposition related to her lawsuit against the blogger Milagro Cooper. No outcome has been decided has of yet.

Lanez continues to make new music, and one recording session in February was disrupted by a prison riot. While laying down some vocals over the phone, a commotion broken out around him, forcing him to abandon the session.
